1st Leboku Literary Festival & Heritage Awards to hold August 30

Ugep, the headquarters of Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State is set to host her 1st 'Leboku Literary Festival & Heritage Awards' NEGROIDHAVEN can say.

The Leboku Literary Festival and Heritage Awards is an event set aside to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Ugep people, as well as identify individual contributions of men and women who have made significant impact to the sociocultural signification of the Ugep nation to modern times.

The event which is scheduled for the 30th of August 2019, will hold at the ITM Event Centre, Ugep, at 5pm.

"The leboku literary festival will be a gathering of students, writers, poets, dramatist, lovers of culture and home anthropologist to celebrate our rich culture via a carnival of literary performances such as spoken word, poetry, treasure walks, traditional dance performances, leboku music, and a lot more. 

"For the maiden edition, we will be celebrating a home prolific writer who has published over 50 articles on Yakurr anthropology and her sociocultural significations to modern times. Our celebrated writer is Chief Daniel Ubana. He will be engaging the youths and students on a panel discuss to reaffirm the sanctity of our tradition as well as encourage the younger generation to go indepth and research into the Yakurr Literature.

"We'll be using this same opportunity to award our patriotic sons and daughters who had fought for the sustainance of our cultural identity, contributed to the sociopolitical development of Ugep and much more, the growth of our union," said the President, National Association of Ugep Students, Comrade Patrick Williams.

Amongst those expected to grace the event are the Paramount Ruler of Yakurr Local Government Area & Obol Lopon of Ugep, Obol Ofem Ubana Eteng, Sepeaker, Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Eteng Jones Williams, Anthropologist and former Senatorial Aspirant, Prof. Oka Martin Obono, Historian and and Head of Department, History and International Relations, University of Calabar, Dr. Otu Abam Ubi, Prof Alex Iwara, Cultural Ambassador and Director, Federal Character Commission, Chief. Daniel Ubana, former Special Adviser on to the Cross River State Governor on Youth Mobilisation, Mr. Eno Okoi Samuel, former Miss Leboku, 2016, Mrs Sarafina Mike Oka, Mr. Francis Duru Duru, and a host of others.

The event will also witness the launch of the maiden edition of the Leboku Literary Festival Magazine called 'The Microscope'.
