NYSC C/River takes anniversary celebration to orphanage

Our Correspondent|16 August 2019

The National Youth Service Corps in Cross River State has carried out the Celebration of her 46th Anniversary to Uwanse Motherless Babies home in Calabar to show love to the kids who desperately needs support from the society.

In his remark, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Eddie Megwa stated that the 46th Anniversary of the NYSC scheme commiserates the efforts of the military Head of state, General Yakubu Gowon, who inaugurated the scheme on May 22nd, 1973.

" Every year, we celebrate the achievements and efforts of the scheme, but this year is very unique because we are very passionate about it. We chose here to identify with the have nots, people who don't know where their future and next meal will come from".

" We have come here to give these children hope, support and to show them that they have the NYSC as a collaborating body that can always come to their aid".

He added that the donation to the Motherless babies home is the NYSC's little way of merging her Anniversary celebration with a bit of social responsibility function, urging the management of the home to readily call on the NYSC for any celebration, issues and assistance.

He further pledged that for every successive year, a minimum of 3 Corps members will be posted to the orphanage home to ensure that the children have the maximum welfare, in terms of education, health and hygiene and - as a way of contributing their own selfless service to humanity and the community.

The Chief Nursing officer in charge of the children, Mrs Sylvia Enegbe representing the Principal Social Welfare officer appreciated the noble gesture of the NYSC officials and Corps members.

"On behalf of the management orphanage home and the children, I sincerely appreciate the NYSC for their benevolence. Be rest assured that the items donated will be well managed to ensure that the kids are properly taken care of", she expressed praying for God to continually take the scheme to greater heights.
