'Prince Ekanem shun your planned peaceful protest in Calabar' —Nigerian Police

2 August 2019

The Cross River State Command of the Nigerian Police has warned one Prince Ekanem against embarking on an alleged planned peaceful protest scheduled for today in Calabar the state capital city NEGROIDHAVEN can say authoritatively.

This directive is contained in a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command PPRO Irene Ugbo and dated 1st August.

The release says that while it admits the constitutional right of every Nigerian to freedom of association, it deemed it fit to draw the attention to Section 45 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as Amended that debars anyone to impinge on another's right in the expression of one's own right.

It therefore said 'Cross River State Police Command by this press release warns any group or group of persons attempting to engage in such unlawful venture to desist without hesitation, as the police will leave no stone unturned in dealing decisively with such persons or group'.

Findings suggest that one Prince Ekanem Ekpo a former appointee of Gov Ben Ayade and suspectedly of the National Anti-Corruption Crusaders is planning to protest against what it referred to as 'great economic predicament, uncertainty and insecurity which an inept, corrupt leadership has imposed on our beloved state for the past four years and some months'.
