Peace Point Development Foundation organises school outreach during World Peace Day

2 October 2019

Peace Point Development Foundation observed the World Peace Day in Calabar, capital city of Cross River in the South Southern geopolitical zone of Nigeria. It encouraged Nigeriam students on waste segregation.

It organised a sensitisation campaign for students of Government Secondary School Atu in Calabar on the 24th of September where resource persons educated over 150 students around the theme of the day —Climate Action for Peace.

While addressing the audience heavily made of students Umoh Isua-Ikoh the Coordinator of PPAF said that there was need to 'marry environmental issues with peace without which there will be no sustainable peace' initiative locally or internationally.

Isua-Ikoh told the students to cultivate the habit of waste segregation as a way of give the environment the needed priority she deserves. He admitted to our correspondent that the teaching curriculum for Nigerian schools has not addressed sufficiently contemporary issues of environment. He noted that because government cannot do it alone, then CSOs and NGOs were needed to fill up the gap.

Students were seen brandishing placards with pro-environment quotes like —'environmental friendly actions is a key to a peaceful society', 'no climate justice, no peace', 'let's save the environment for our future generations', etc.

World Peace Day holds every 21st September.

Peace Point Development Foundation is a pro-development civil society organisation operating in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
