Illegal Ministries? Fed High Court to deliver judgment on lawyer's suit challenging Ayade

12 March 2020

Today, 12th March has been slated for judgement on Nigerian lawyer's suit challenging the creation of what is referred to as 'illegal ministries' in Cross River State.

The Registrar of Federal High Court 2, Calabar (Justice Simon Amobeda's court), informed that judgement in the case filed against the Governor of Cross River State for creating illegal ministries, will be delivered today, the 12th of March, 2020 and no longer the 26th of March, 2020 it was originally slated for.

Recall that in January, Ferdinand Baba Isa a Nigerian lawyer sued the Governor of Cross River State, the Government of Cross River State, the Attorney General of Cross River State and three others through an Originating Summons, asking the Court to declare the action of the Governor in creating the Ministries of Aviation, Foreign Affairs and Solid Minerals illegal and unconstitutional.

On 19th of February, 2020 Isa engaged in a prolonged argument (for over one hour) with Barr Tanko Ashang, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Cross River State as parties argued both the preliminary objection and originating summons before Honourable Justice Simon Amobeda of the Federal High Court, Calabar.

The Court adjourned the matter to the 26th of March, 2020 to deliver judgment after hearing of the arguments on the case.

Isa has described the decision of the court as 'impressive'.
