5G in C/River: Parent Teachers Association calls for caution

6 April 2020

The National Parent Teachers Association of Nigeria NAPTAN, in Cross River has called for caution in the installation of the now controversial 5G Network Services across the length and breadth of the state NEGROIDHAVEN can say.

Their disposition is contained in a statement obtained by our correspondent and signed by the state chairman Prof. Boniface Ogbu Odey who advised that before the installation of the 5G facilities in the state, thorough investigation should be carried out to determine its harmlessness to humans.

His words, 'Parents hereby advise the Government that, the installation of 5G Masts in our States should be thoroughly investigated and proved harmless to human existence before the final activation of the G5 Network Services in our Cities'.

Prof. Odey seized the opportunity to endorse the suspension of academic activities by the state government encouraging parents and students to see it in positive light: 'My dear Parents and Students, the suspension of academic work in our educational institutions should not be taken in bad light, but positive decision in this critical circumstances. For those countries in Europe that failed to do same when they ought to have done so, bore the dire consequences.

'To this end therefore, there is need to lock down in order not to be knocked out, we should all stay safe to return strong at the end.

'For God is mindful of us all under the umbrella of NAPTAN and all the good people of Cross River State. We remain loyal to the Government of Cross River State in particular and the Federal Government in general, we shall continue to partner with them in this period of trial, and together we shall triumph over this COVID-19', his statements read in parts.

Recall that the COVID-19 pandemic currently ravaging the globe all started in Wuhan, China in the latter part of 2019 and has spread in most parts of Western Europe including the United States of America.

In Nigeria, its first case was recorded on 27 February 2020 which necessitated the call on President Muhammadu Buhari to address the nation on his plans and strategies to contain the spread and ensure that the virus did not inflict maximum damage on our fragile Country. Incidentally, though belatedly, the President did address the Nation on Monday, 29 March 2020.

And the mortality rate has been massive which explains the reasons world leaders have approached the pandemic from all fronts.

5G is 5th Generation Mobile Network. It has been linked to the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic and has witnessed prominent religious leaders in Nigeria expressing their reservations.
