Commissioner for Youth addresses C/River youths on World Youth Skills Day

The Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Youth Development and Skills Acquisition in Cross River, Signor Omang Idiege, has addressed Nigerian youths during the 2020 edition of World Youth Skills Day NEGROIDHAVEN has learnt. 

The address which is contained in a press release and made available to our newsdesk is titled: 'World Youth Skills Day 2020: Skill Acquisition Indispensable to Development'. 

In the 6 paragraphs release, Idiege identified capacity development of Nigerian youths through skills acquisition as indispensable. The Commissioner who further observed that the Cross River State Government (CRSG) has been keen about building resilient youths in the state disclosed that this disposition by Governor Ben Ayade is what resulted in the materialisation of the Construction and Fabrication Academy of West Africa, located in Calabar the state capital.

According to idiege, 'this initiative by the ever youth friendly and proactive Governor is to build a myriad of youth who are self-reliant and who can fit perfectly into a changing and dynamic world.'

The aide to the state governor noted that the State Governor through the Ministry of Youth Development and Skills Acquisition aims at raising 'conscious youth who instead of waiting for "ready made" jobs will be innovative entrepreneurs, creating jobs and solving societal problems aimed at overall development of the Nation.

'I indulge the consciousness of youths towards skills acquisition irrespective of academic qualifications and societal status. Skills Acquisition creates wealth and propagates equitable, inclusive and sustainable economic growth. The materialisation of this consciousness will no doubt inculcate in the youth, skills for employment which will contribute to addressing the multiple demands of economic, social and environmental development,' he said. 

Speaking earlier he noted that 'with daily global rise in youth unemployment, there is a constant need to remind ourselves of the indispensability of Skills Acquisition by the youth towards personal and national development.'

Celebrated May 15 every year, the 'World Youth Skills Day' provides an avenue for Governments all over the world, private institutions and corporate organisations and individuals to acknowledge and celebrate the importance of equipping young people with skills for employment and entrepreneurship when making conscious efforts towards creating an enabling environment for skill development. The 2020 theme is phrased thus: 'Skills for a Resilient Youth'.
